Pochettino: We have 15 injured, what to do?

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino understands the frustration of his team’s fans at their poor start to the season, but stressed that his squad has been hampered by injuries to more than a dozen players.

Chelsea’s poor run of form continued with a goalless draw against Bournemouth on Sunday, the second game in a row in which Pochettino’s side failed to score after losing 1-0 at Nottingham Forest earlier this month.

Chelsea are 14th in the Premier League with five points from five games, despite spending around $1 billion on transfers since new owner Todd Boeli arrived.

“I think the fans know that if you invest the money that people are talking about in the media, there are expectations,” Pochettino said after the Bournemouth game. “If you don’t win, it’s normal for the fans to be unhappy. But we can’t change the situation immediately, there are too many players who are not available,” he added.

Defender Mark Kukureya, striker Noni Madueke and British record signing Moises Kaisedo all miss Sunday’s game, joining a long injury list that includes captain Reece James, Christopher Nkunku and Romeo Lavia.

“We have tremendous faith but bad luck because we have 12 injured players, plus Kukureyaa, Madueke and Caicedo today,” added Pochettino.

“But I’m not going to complain. I have to accept this challenge and keep being positive. We’re not going to change the way we’re going to do things.”
