Bulgaria lost to Azerbaijan with 1:3 in a match of the 1/4-finals of the Mini-Football World Cup.
The match started evenly and both teams were waiting for the opponent to make a mistake. In the 13th minute, the most serious opportunity so far in the match opened and it was in the net of Azerbaijan. A shot by the Azeri was cleared just short of the goal line. Immediately in the counterattack, Nikolay Marinov ran almost the entire field and shot into the near corner, and the goalkeeper hit the post, after which the defenders cleared.
In the 15th minute, the goalkeeper showed us a cat’s reflex after a treacherous shot. Azerbaijan visibly pressed our boys and shots rained down from all sides. The second half started with a very nice shot by Deni Kostadinov, where the Azerbaijan keeper covered his corner and parried for a corner. Unfortunately for us, our boys conceded a goal in the 29th minute. Isaev turned the ball very technically into the opposite corner of Mitkov Karov, who was helpless – 1:0 for Azerbaijan.
We immediately had a chance to restore the tie, but Marinov was unable to overcome the goalkeeper from close range. The European champions took advantage of this, doubling their lead through Karilov in the 32nd minute after a collective error by our defense – 2:0 for Azerbaijan.
In the 34th minute, Genadiev committed a flawless foul, but his shot rattled the goal post behind Gafarov. Three minutes later, the Azerbaijanis made the result classic after a phenomenal finishing shot by Nestorov in the upper right corner of Todor Malinov, who appeared shortly before – 3:0 for Azerbaijan.
In the 40th minute, Bulgaria scored a goal after a curious situation occurred with a shot that ricocheted off the goalkeeper of Azerbaijan, and the ball ended up in his goal – 1:3. This goal gave our team a boost and they looked boldly at the opponent’s goal. Genchev and Kairyakov made serious mistakes, and once the beam helped Gafarov.
Our goalkeeper made some wonderful saves in the last minutes, but it was no more.
