A new scandal has erupted surrounding Sandro Tonali just days after the Newcastle and Italy midfielder was banned for 10 months for betting on unlicensed platforms.
The English Football Association has launched an investigation to find out whether Tonali continued the betting after his €65m transfer from AC Milan to Newcastle in the summer.
If he is found to have done so as a Premier League player in the Island, it is possible that the player will receive another sanction and the period in which he will not play be extended.
Additionally, and probably far more scandalous, is the situation with reports in Italy that Sandro’s former club AC Milan were aware of his problems and that he was being investigated for betting when they approved the move to Newcastle.
And in no way did they predict the English, who paid an impressive sum for the player.
“We will do our own investigation because we are shocked by this – commented Dan Ashworth, Newcastle’s sporting director. – I can’t say who knew what, but it would be a huge disappointment.”
Milan declined comments requested by Gadzeta delo Sport and the English media BBC.
