Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta erupted after the 1-0 loss to Newcastle. The Spanish specialist expressed his anger at the Magpies’ decisive goal, which saw a suspected foul on Joelinton in the attack, a foul on goal scorer Anthony Gordon and a possible offside. After a long review of the situation with VAR, the goal was awarded.
“How can they concede that goal? This is unbelievable, I’m ashamed. It’s an absolute disgrace that they conceded that goal. It’s not a goal for many reasons, it’s just not a goal. It’s so difficult to play at this level, so it’s a shame to concede a goal like that. Newcastle are a top team but I’m furious at the moment. I have been in this country for 20 years and I am ashamed of what happened. It’s a shame because the stakes here are very high,” Arteta said.
“We try to do serious things at the highest level every week. When we don’t do well, I’m the first to raise my hand and take responsibility. What happened is far from the level it should be in this league. It’s just not enough. I’m ashamed to have been a part of this,” he continued.
