Lyuboslav Penev’s place at the coaching post in Heber is not certain after the mayoral elections in Pazardzhik.
The 57-year-old coach is close to the already ousted Todor Popov. The former mayor collected 14,425 votes (43.95%) in the runoff against 17,702 (53.94%) of the new mayor Petar Kulenski.
It was Popov who brought Lubo to the hot seat in the local football team, fulfilling his every wish. Including a huge salary, which was a record for a person involved in sports in Pazardzhik municipality.
Popov served four terms as mayor, but yesterday lost the run-off battle to the former volleyball player, who is heavily rumored to cut costs for the football club despite being an athlete. This will probably reflect on Luboslav Penev, who enjoys serious financial benefits – not only personally, but also for the entire team, writes “Blitz”.
A meeting between the new mayor Kulinski and Penev is expected. But it is quite likely that Penev will leave the club after the end of the autumn half-season or, in the worst case, will finish with Heber at the end of the season.
