The Minister of Youth and Sports, Dimitar Iliev, stated that the Municipality of Burgas must bear responsibility for the condition in which Arena Burgas is located. He added that responsibility will also be sought from “Akademika 2011” EAD.
“The report was made by the internal audit unit of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. This is one of the pearls in the arsenal of MMS, but when you get inside, a poor construction execution is evident. Many things are visible. The floors are on such a rough pavement. The three sectors have joints that are not done properly. There is a divergence in sector levels. You can see that it was built poorly, that it was rushed, even though this hall has been under construction since 2014. At the moment, the only thing that can be done inside is to hold gymnastics competitions, but before that, the necessary equipment must be bought.
What our audit shows is that there are inconsistencies. There are things that don’t match.
At the moment, no other sports can be held in the hall,” Iliev shared in an interview with bTV.
“Once installed, the rigging can be used for gymnastics.”
“I have ordered it to be completed in the most expeditious form, so that it may be used for all sports.”
“What exactly is going on right now? I’m working on documents. The responsibility must be borne by the people who built the hall. The hall was first commissioned to be built by the municipality of Burgas in 2014. Absolutely, it must bear responsibility. Boarding costs BGN 4.4 million. This is a good example of how it is built haphazardly, how no one is held accountable. These examples are not only for Arena Burgas, but for the construction of highways and other objects.”
“We demand accountability from Academica.”
“Naturally, the hall will cost more to complete.”
“We have let ADFI conduct an inspection. It will be investigated within the structures as well,” said Dimitar Iliev.
“Arena Burgas” is unsuitable for hosting sports events
