The vice-president of the BFS, Emil Kostadinov, spoke about the excesses last night.
“There’s nothing wrong with people protesting and expressing their opinions. But last night’s inferno was not because of the BFS, it was because of those who created it. Come, protest peacefully, no problem. Now do we all realize that if it was allowed to have fans in the stands, what would have happened. There could have been deaths. We would have seen an invasion of the pitch, a stoppage of the match, which would have meant the end of Bulgarian football. UEFA would have erased us from their map. It gives me chills. And some people insisted to allow spectators to the stadium, they wrote requests. Now are you convinced that they were wrong. But no way. So – the huge tension was not created by us, but by others,” he said in an interview with Blitz.
“We played very well. And it’s a pity that the match is not in the epicenter of the comments and the echoes. But how can it be after everything that happened. The match was my only joy that brought me last night. I was impressed by Ilian Iliev and the scheme, on which he bet. Even when we were down a man, we performed at a high level. For this reason, I want to congratulate both our new coach and the players. But do you know what is unpleasant? It was the third time we conceded a goal in the last minutes. If we had taken three points each in those three games – with Serbia, Montenegro and now with Hungary, the situation in the group would have been completely different”.
Regarding the middle finger, he stated: “There is no such thing. I have not shown the middle finger. It is clearly visible that it is my index finger and it is not directed at a particular person. Let the people who accuse me, including a former footballer who wants to become president, to look more closely at whether I am really pointing the middle finger and apologize to me. You know that others on this same team accused me of other things, but in the end the court decided otherwise. I will remind them again that despite the attacks, despite the accusations, BFS is working in the right direction. The national team is also on the right track with the new coach,” concluded Kostadinov.
