Four presidents – Rumen Radev, Rosen Plevneliev, Georgi Parvanov and Petar Stoyanov honored the opening of the Hristo Stoichkov Museum of Fame in Sofia. In practice, of all the heads of state of Bulgaria after the changes, only the late Dr. Zhelio Zhelev was missing.
“I’m happy and proud that I resisted what I set as a goal as a child. I did it because we’re a small country. I have nothing to prove, I want this to be a memory of the path I’ve taken and the teenagers to they see the story.
Thanks to everyone who is here. You are friends because you have shown that everything is achieved with hard work. This is a small exhibit where I show what I have earned over the years. Thanks to you, to my friends and first of all to my family,” said Stoichkov.
It was not by chance that he chose the date November 17, which marks the 30th anniversary of the unforgettable match at Parc des Princes, in which Bulgaria beat France 2:1 and qualified for the World Cup in the USA in 1994. After the guests was Dimitar Penev, as well as some of his teammates in the national team – Krasimir Balakov, Nasko Sirakov, Daniel Borimirov, Petar Alexandrov, Radostin Kishishev, Boncho Genchev, Plamen Nikolov. The former and current mayors of Sofia – Yordanka Fandakova and Vasil Terziev, as well as a bunch of sports legends, including Stefka Kostadinova, Armen Nazaryan, Petar Lesov, Tanya Bogomilova, came to pay their respects to Kamat.
Stoichkov, who is the #1 ambassador of Bulgaria in the world, has arranged in the Museum of Fame the relics that marked his career – the jerseys of the teams he played in, as well as those he exchanged with giants of the game.
The most important individual awards of the legendary #8 are also in the middle:
– “Golden Ball” won in 1994
– “Golden Boot” to Europe’s No. 1 goalscorer (1990)
– “Golden Onz” for the best football player in the world for 1992
Starting tomorrow, the museum will also open its doors to fans, who will be able to explore its rich contents.
