The management of Barcelona is extremely angry with the national coach Luis de la Fuente because of Gavi’s serious injury, writes AS.
The midfielder left the field in the 26th minute during the match against Georgia with suspected torn knee ligaments. In all likelihood, the youngster will have to undergo surgery and will be out for the rest of the season. Gavi will miss Euro 2024 and the Paris Games.
Barcelona are puzzled as to why one of their star players was not rested in Spain’s game against Georgia, which was irrelevant for both teams. Just three days ago, Gavi started in the win against Cyprus. The midfielder was one of two players to retain his starting place against Georgia as well.
Barcelona are even considering filing an official complaint with the federation’s management for damages.
“In the dressing room the feeling was like we had lost. We are devastated. Gavi’s injury is serious and this is a very difficult time for all of us. It was an accident, but Gavi was fully ready for the game, like everyone else,” explained De la Fuente, who has drawn a lot of criticism for his decision not to rest the Barcelona player.
At the same time, Mundo Deportivo reported that Barcelona will receive between 3 million and 4.3 million euros from FIFA in compensation for the midfielder’s injury from the club’s protection program.
The compensation will start to accrue on the 28th day after the player’s injury and will depend on his fixed salary. The maximum amount of compensation for an injury to a single player is €7.5 million per year or €20,548 per day. The amount of payments due to Barca will be calculated from December 16.
