FIFA President Gianni Infantino will categorically not attend the celebration of the century anniversary of Bulgarian football, announced a source from the BFS.
The party is planned for December 16 in a capital hotel.
It is not yet clear whether UEFA will also send its president Alexander Ceferin to Sofia. The Slovenian was at the stadium in Leskovac for our last European qualifier with Serbia, which we ended 2:2 with the hosts.
Ceferin was in Serbia for the opening of two brand new stadiums in Zemun and Loznica. For the neighbors, the one in Leskovac is already “old”, after they discovered it in June.
The construction of the new national stadium for 60,000 spectators near the airport in Belgrade has already started. It is planned to cost 350 million euros.
The lack of sponsors is also a problem for the celebration of the century anniversary of our football. Most companies that have been approached by the current management of the BFS have rather politely turned them down.
The long-awaited plenary session, which is expected to announce a date for next year’s congress, may be delayed by a few days.
The reason is that one of the vice-presidents, Mihail Kasabov, is among the delegates on duty at the World Cup for juniors under 17 years of age in Indonesia. Kasabov can go home to Bulgaria on Sunday at the earliest.
It was Mikhail Kasabov who took the place of Borislav Mikhailov after his resignation after the match with England and managed for a year and a half before Mikhailov returned.
Now it is expected that upon Mihailov’s resignation, he will take over the position again, because he is an undisputed authority in football. And because of that, he has to attend the board meeting, which is expected to be quite stormy.
Mihailov is very likely to withdraw in order not to organize the general assembly, which will most likely take place in February or early March next year.
