A joint-stock company offers to take over the management of OFK Pirin Blagoevgrad, announced the Municipality, which currently owns the club’s shares. From there they indicate that the municipal mayor Metodi Baikushev submitted the proposal for consideration in the Municipal Council.

Blagoevgrad resident Georgi Spasov and Sofia businessman Milen Stefanov have previously submitted to Mayor Baikushev a proposal for managerial participation in the development of the Pirin EOOD Blagoevgrad football club, the Municipality states. The representatives of the company have declared their readiness to present their business plan for the development of the football club to the Municipal Council, which must decide on their proposal at a meeting to be held on April 26.

Spasov develops a successful business in the field of renewable energy sources and is known for helping many sports clubs and noble causes in Blagoevgrad for years. Milen Stefanov is the owner of “Five Men” EOOD – an outsourcing telecommunications company operating in several markets in Europe.

The proposal is from “PFK PIRIN 22” AD, whose majority shareholders are the two businessmen. They have a serious credit for getting the club out of the difficult financial situation in which it was left at the end of 2023.

Spasov and Stefanov propose to take over the right for OFK “Pirin” EOOD to participate in the BFS championships and tournaments from next season through a management company. According to the proposal, the municipal football club will become a shareholder in the private joint-stock company, acquiring 10% free of charge (20,000 shares) and broadcast a representative on the board of directors.

Mayor Metodi Baikushev submitted the proposal for consideration in the Municipal Council. In his letter to the councilors, Mayor Baikushev reminds that Pirin Blagoevgrad was established in 2012. Over the years, the municipality of Blagoevgrad has been the main benefactor and guarantor of the existence of football. Maintaining a professional football club in the first echelon, however, is not within the power of the municipality alone. In the period 2019 – 2023, based on an approved business plan, a successful cooperation was realized with Mr. Belogur, who invested a lot in football in Blagoevgrad. The cooperation with Belogur was based on the same model that Spasov and Stefanov are proposing now – concluding a contract with a management company in which the municipality of Blagoevgrad has a stake.

After the termination of cooperation with Mr. Belogur, it is impossible for the Municipality of Blagoevgrad to provide the entire support of the company. At the moment, the representative men’s team of the company competes in the First Professional League, fighting to stay in the league in the next sports competition year. At the same time, the company has to overcome the heavy financial legacy and accumulated liabilities in 2023.

The representatives of AD have declared their readiness to present their business plan for the development of FC “Pirin” Blagoevgrad to the municipal council, which must decide on their proposal at the meeting on 04/26/2024.
