Gruev’s Leeds survive crazy 7-goal thriller to stay on course for Premier League

Leeds beat Middlesbrough 4-3 away in an incredible drama that ultimately saw them quiver and fight back to deny an equalizer against the lackluster hosts.

The crazy game of the Championship gave three points to the team for which Ilia Gruev was on the field for 90 minutes, and they may prove to be key for direct promotion in the Premier League.

The Bulgarian international was at the heart of a strong first half for the visitors, who took a 3-2 lead after 39 stunning minutes in which the attacks simply did not stop at both goals.

Crisencio Summerville, Patrick Bamford and Wilfried Nionto scored, while for Middlesbrough Jones and Latte Latt scored. Summerville made it 2-4 at the start of the second half, but a goal five minutes before the end of Latte Lat brought things back to 3-4.

Leeds held on in the tense closing moments as Boro pressed for an equaliser. And it is already second in the standings, although with a game more than the competitors.

Leicester lead with 91 points (from 43 games played), Leeds are second with 90 (44 matches) and Ipswich have 89 (43).

The top two teams go directly into the Premier League, but the third will have to go through Play-off Hell, where they will play two away games with sixth in the table – a place currently held by Norwich.

And then he will play the final at “Wembley” with the winner of the semi-final duels of the fourth and fifth (currently – West Bromwich and Southampton).
