La Liga president Javier Tebas commented on the case, but gave a rather unsatisfactory explanation for the reluctance of the elite Spanish championship to keep up with modern trends.

“It’s not perfect technology and that’s the first reason. But there’s more to it than that: the so-called ‘ghost goals’ are scored three or four times a season and when you add that this system is not 100% effective, the value becomes too high,” Tebas said.

“It means an investment of 5 to 6 million dollars to be able to use it once or twice a season, and with doubts,” added the president.

According to Tebas, the more effective solution is to install additional cameras to assist the judges.
