After the last El Clasico between Real Madrid and Barcelona, the whole football world was wondering why there is no goal line technology in Spain.

In the most controversial moment of the match, Barca came very close to scoring when Lamin Yamal deflected the ball towards the goal and Andrii Lunin cleared it somewhere around the goal line.

From the camera angles available, it was impossible to tell if it was naked or not, and it was the missing technology that would have worked in this case.

In the end, the goal was disallowed, and Barcelona lost 2-3 and then described the absence of the necessary technology as a shame for football.

La Liga president Javier Tebas commented on the case, but gave a rather unsatisfactory explanation for the reluctance of the elite Spanish championship to keep up with modern trends.

“It’s not perfect technology and that’s the first reason. But there’s more to it than that: the so-called ‘ghost goals’ are scored three or four times a season and when you add that this system is not 100% effective, the value becomes too high,” Tebas said.

“It means an investment of 5 to 6 million dollars to be able to use it once or twice a season, and with doubts,” added the president.

According to Tebas, the more effective solution is to install additional cameras to assist the judges.
