Dutch Feyenoord coach Arne Slott will succeed Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager from next season, British media have reported. Liverpool have agreed to pay 10.9 million euros as compensation to Feyenoord, reports the BBC.

Back on Thursday, Slott announced he wanted the Anfield job. “I would like to go to Liverpool. Now I’m waiting to see if the clubs will reach an agreement,” he told the Dutch press two days ago.

Slott has been Feyenoord’s coach since 2021 and in his first season he led the team to the Europa League final, which they lost 1-0 to Jose Mourinho’s Roma. Slott then brought Feyenoord their first Dutch league title in 24 years.

Jurgen Klopp in turn announced that he will step down as manager of Liverpool at the end of this season after leading the legendary British club for 9 years, Klopp won the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League title in 2020 year.

“I like the way his team plays football,” Klopp said when asked to highlight Slott’s qualities.

“I don’t know him, but some people who know him say he’s a good person. I like this very much. If he’s the guy, I’m more than happy. It’s the best job in the world, the best club in the world. Great job, great team, fantastic people. Really interesting work,” he added.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, who is also Dutch, said Slott’s attacking tactics could be the perfect fit for the club. “I think Arne Sloot is probably one of the best Dutch coaches at the moment,” Van Dijk said.
Feyenoord are currently in second place in the Dutch league.

The Liverpool owners’ first choice was Bayer Leverkusen coach and former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso. However, the Spaniard decided to stay at Leverkusen after leading the team to their first ever Bundesliga title.
