Champion and world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev produced another easy victory to book a place in the fourth round of the US Open.
The Russian defeated Chinese qualifier Yibing Wu 6:4, 6:2, 6:2, advancing in the tournament without losing a set.
It was the fastest match since the start of the tournament for defending champion Medvedev, who handled the 174th-ranked Chinese in less than two hours. Yibing Wu is writing not only his own, but also the history of men’s tennis in China, achieving his country’s first Slam victory in more than 50 years, but today he had a severe collision with reality.
Medvedev was simply on a different level. Fiercely focused and looking like a man on a mission, the Russian effortlessly broke down yet another opponent to record his 21st win from his last 23 matches in this tournament.
But in the fourth round, things will get rough, because an epic match awaits us between the champion Medvedev and the finalist from the last edition of “Wimbledon” – Nick Kyrgios.
It’s always exciting when the two meet on court, and this time Kyrgios is in the form of his life, determined to break into another Slam tournament.
The Aussie also eased into a match against the world No.1, defeating hosts JJ Wolfe in three sets.
