Bulgarian goalkeeper Plamen Iliev changed teams in Romania after today, on the last day of the transfer period in the country, he moved from Hermannstadt to Universitatia (Cluj). The “black and white” club in Cluj presented him as extremely experienced and with many successes.
“Welcome to “U”, Plamen Iliev! In the last hours of the transfer period, “U” made a new move and signed goalkeeper Plamen Iliev. 30 years old, 182 centimeters tall, has three Bulgarian championship titles with the Ludogorets team, as well as one cup won, says Iliev’s presentation on the Universitatya (Cluj) page.
Otherwise, on his business card there are 19 matches in the national team of Bulgaria, 14 of which in official campaigns. He participated with Ludogorets in the European club tournaments – Champions League and Europa League.
He entered men’s football with the Vidima-Rakovski team (Sevlievo), but his real star rose in Levski after arriving at the Georgi Asparuhov Stadium. In 2015/2016 he arrived in Romania, his first team being Botosani. Then he moved to Astra (Giurgevo), where he made a real sensation – 20 dry nets in 58 matches. In January 2019, he returned to Ludogorets, where he contributed to the eighth title of the people of Razgrad, as well as two more after that.
His second period in Romania began with Dinamo (Bucharest), from where he left, attracted by the offer of Hermannstadt, at that time in the second division. The sports director of the team from the city of Sibiu is Danuc Koman, a former goalkeeper and president of Astra, who knows him very well.
Ironically, Plamen Iliev played his strongest match with Hermanstadt precisely when visiting the University of Cluj, when both teams are fighting for entry into the elite. Iliev helps the success of his team with 2:1, who win promotion. His new team went through playoffs, eliminated Dynamo and also entered. Since the start of the new season, however, Hermannstadt has had financial problems and Uni (Cluj) hastily decided the deal.
However, Universitat (Cluj) are still without a win in the first 9 games of the new season, with the four points coming from four draws and also suffering five defeats. Just a few days ago, the Polish central defender Christian Novak was also taken from Widzew Lodz, and with Iliev, the defense should take on a different look.
