Not one, but two current quarter-finalists of the US Open have been announced for participation in the seventh edition of the Sofia Open, which will delight tennis fans in our country from September 25.
The tournament is in “Arena Armeets” and is of the ATP 250 category.
The great news from today is that the list of tennis players who are in the requests for qualifications sits at the top of the name of Andrei Rublev. The Russian is among the top eight in New York and will return to the top 10 in the men’s rankings (as low as #9) starting Monday.
It is already clear that another member of the elite will play in the main draw – Yanik Siner, a two-time champion in Sofia, also a quarterfinalist at the US Open in the current edition. And he will almost certainly be in the top 10 before the race in our country. Hubert Hurkach, currently #10, is third on the list for Sofia from the top tier of the rankings.
The list of confirmed qualifiers is outstanding. In addition to Rublev, the qualifiers include Marc-Andrea Huessler (Switzerland), JJ Wolf (USA), Dusan Lajovic (Serbia), Daniel Galan (Colombia), Nuno Borges (Portugal), Peter Gojovcik (Germany), Tim van Reithofen (Netherlands). , Jan-Lennard Struff (Germany), Hugo Humber (France) and Mats Moraing (Germany).
Two of the names deserve special attention – Van Reithoven created one of the surprises of the season when he became the champion of the grass tournament in Hertogenbosch, defeating world #1 Daniil Medvedev in the final.
The Colombian Galan created another sensation a few days ago, when in the first round of the megatournament in New York he eliminated one of the favorites in the tournament, Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The list for the main scheme was already impressive enough.
The big news is the return to the Bulgarian audience of the champion from 2017, Grigor Dimitrov. In addition to him, Siner and Hurkach, there is this month’s Montreal Masters champion Pablo Carreño Busta, one of the most attractive tennis players Gael Monfils, the winner of three Grand Slam titles Stan Wawrinka, another showman on the tour – Alexander Bublik, the Italian star of the future Lorenzo Musetti, Holger Rune, Jack Draper, Filip Krainovic, Fabio Fognini, Alejandro Davidovic, Nikoloz Basilashvili and other names from the elite of world tennis. Two more Bulgarians – Dimitar Kuzmanov and Alexander Lazarov – will play with a wild card for the main draw.
