German driver Mick Schumacher may only have a few races left to save his career in Formula 1, writes DPA agency. The son of seven-time champion Michael Schumacher, who earned a place in the Haas team from the Ferrari academy, is out of contract at the end of the year.

Mick Schumacher spent two seasons at Haas, but only scored his first points this year in July at the British Grand Prix, finishing eighth. A sixth place in Austria followed, but Schumacher did not finish in the top 13 thereafter.

“I said at the start of the season that it was important for Mick to progress,” commented Ferrari Formula 1 boss Mattia Binotto. “After a few races we will sit down and talk to him, analyze the season and together with Haas we will decide on his future,” Binoto added.

The Haas team, which is partnered with Ferrari, will not be obliged to keep Schumacher if the 23-year-old German is no longer part of the Italian car concern’s driver academy.

Mick Schumacher currently occupies 15th place in the provisional standings among drivers in Formula 1 with 12 points after 15 starts. He was slowest in Saturday’s qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix, although he will not start last. On Friday, Schumacher was replaced in the first practice session at Monza by Ferrari reserve driver Antonio Giovinazzi, who lined up to succeed him.
