Neshka Robeva: I protest against what adults do to children

Isn’t it high time we asked the question, where is this wild world going?

The 39th World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship opens in Sofia. Let’s wish a worthy performance to the participants and success to our girls. I’ve been a coach for a third of my life on this earth. I had the great chance to work with talented children, completely devoted to their dreams. We worked, succeeded, became champions… Twice, when we were most prepared, for political reasons, against our will, we boycotted the Olympic Games and the World Championship. Of course I suffered it. Mostly because of the incredible work they had put in and the huge disappointment. There was nothing we could do but grit our teeth and move on, swallowing the tears and the pain of being powerless to resist the interference of politics in sports…

Why am I writing all this? I write, perhaps, because I still harbor illusions that the sincere anxiety with which the word is imbued can disturb someone’s sweet sleep, disturb someone’s guilty conscience? Is it?

The other day I read that a competitor from the Hungarian national team refused to participate in the World Championships because a Russian gymnast was included in the same team?! Whether this is so and whether this is the real reason, I do not undertake to comment…

I remember the war in Yugoslavia, I remember that we pulled out the teams of Serbia and Bosnia from under the bombs, that we organized a tour in Japan, that people rose to their feet when the Serbian and Bosnian gymnast shook hands on the podium…

I don’t remember, but an American competitor was punished because of the permanent aggression from the USA?!

I remember the poster that greeted us every day in the hall – “Sports for a peaceful world”. But I also remember the children killed in the gas chambers just because they were born Jewish…

The Englishman Thomas Bach – head of the IOC, categorically refused to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in competitions, despite the requests and disagreement of individual international federations. Shouldn’t we remind him and show footage of the Olympic Games – 1936 in Berlin, where the English athletes parade in front of the Führer with their hands raised in greeting?

No, I have no desire and would not allow myself to blame the children of Germans, Italians, Americans, Turks… as well as Russians, for what their fathers, grandfathers or forefathers do or have done… But I will protest with their whole being against what they are doing, these days, with the children, the adults. I will protest against hate speech becoming the official language in sports. I will protest and if I had the power I would sue those who absolutely deliberately instill aggression in children, who provoke shootings in schools, cinemas, discotheques…

Isn’t it high time we asked the question, where is this wild world going? A world that, according to Ulrich Mies, is run by a criminal, perverse syndicate…

What do we do with the children?

We are silent!
