Slavia U19 suffered an extremely heavy defeat against Panathinaikos of Greece in their first match of the Youth Champions League.
The “White” juniors lost 0:8 and largely said goodbye to their dreams of reaching the elimination phase of the tournament. October 5 is the rematch in Sofia, when Slavia will be hoping for something more than a miracle.
In order to advance, the team led by Ivan Ivanov had to remove Panathinaikos and another rival. Sofianci are in the stream of teams whose first teams are not in the Champions League groups.
After today’s loss, the rematch at the beginning of October will be formal. Unstoppable for Slavia’s defense was 18-year-old French talent Bilal Abdelrahman-Dzini. He scored five of the eight goals – in the 2nd, 30th, 49th, 58th and 66th minutes.
Leandro Frocou scored twice (45′ and 45’+1′), and deep into added time Athanasios Dabizas scored the final score.
