Saudi Arabia have decided to present an incredible bid to Serie A to finalize a sort of Italian Super Cup tournament. This was reported by “MF-Milano Finanza”, explaining that the offer was worth 138 million euros and was passed on the highest floors of Lega Serie A.
The agreement will be for six years – until the 2028/29 season, and financially it is three times more than the current contract between the two parties, according to which one match is played between the winner of the Cup and the champion.
The improved offer is mainly due to the new format of the tournament with 4 teams, similar to the one in Spain: the top two ranked teams in Serie A and the Coppa Italia finalists.
In the next few days, a delegation from Lega Serie A, led by CEO Luigi De Ciervo, will go to Riyadh to negotiate with representatives of Sela (Riyadh’s agency) with the aim of further improving the terms of the contract.
The idea is to see if there is an opportunity to raise the otherwise huge offer for clubs in the Italian league as well, thereby replenishing their coffers, which have suffered severely during the pandemic.
