Erling Haaland gave Manchester City a 2-1 victory against his former team Borussia Dortmund after an outstanding masterpiece in the 84th minute.
Joao Cancelo’s assist with the outside of his foot was also absolutely exquisite, but the Norwegian’s acrobatics to put the ball into the net was mind-boggling.
His strike was very similar to a legendary goal by the great Johan Cruyff – something that Pep Guardiola pointed out in his first words after the victory.
“What a goal!” said the Catalan. “I remember how Johan Cruyff scored a similar one for Barcelona against Atletico Madrid a long time ago. It’s great that Haaland can do the same things as Cruyff.”
City were on the verge of losing at the Etihad but managed to pull off a turnaround thanks to two goals in the space of four minutes. John Stones’ equalizer also deserves serious attention, but Haaland’s goal was simply alien class.
With him, the Norwegian striker now has 26 goals in 21 matches in the Champions League, or an average of a goal every 62 minutes! The goal against Dortmund was his 13th in nine games for Manchester City.
