Saudi Arabia produced one of the surprises of the 2022 World Cup, overturning Argentina from 0-1 to 2-1 to claim victory against one of the tournament favourites.
Unfortunately for the Arabs, they were martyred during the “albiseleste” feat. Defender Yasser Al Shahrani suffered a serious injury after being brutally kneed by goalkeeper Al Owais.
As a result of the serious collision, Al Shahrani was carried off the field on a stretcher, and subsequent examinations revealed that he had a broken jaw, crushed facial bones and internal bleeding.
The defender was immediately operated on. The intervention was successful, but Al Shahrani will miss the rest of the World Cup.
“I want to assure everyone that I’m fine, but keep your fingers crossed for me,” Al Shahrani said.
In honor of the victory at the start in Saudi Arabia, they declared the next day a national holiday and a non-working day.
In the second round of the group stage, the Arabs will face Poland, while Argentina will meet Mexico. In the match between themselves, the Poles and the Mexicans cleaned up one of the already four goalless draws in Qatar.
