Tottenham squandered a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 away to Southampton in a match of the 28th round of the English Premier League. The Londoners took the lead in the extra minutes of the first half through Pedro Porro’s strike. The Saints equalized immediately after the break through Che Adams, but Tottenham regained the lead in the 65th through Harry Kane, who headed in Dejan Kuluszewski’s cross. The people of Sofia scored a third goal with a shot in the corner by the Croatian Ivan Perišić a quarter of an hour before the end of regular time. The hosts pulled one back in the 77th minute through former England international Theo Walcott. The dramatic outcome was reached in the extra time of the match at St. Mary’s Stadium. Pape Sarr then played clumsily in the box and fouled Ainsley Maidland-Neils. James Ward-Prowse scored from the spot to make it 3-3, securing a valuable point for Southampton, who are 20th in the provisional table. Tottenham occupy the fourth position so far.
In another match of the round, Leeds prevailed 4:2 away against Wolverhampton. The Whites led 3-0 after goals from Jack Harrison, Luke Ayling and Rasmus Christensen until the 62nd minute. “Wolves” pulled two goals back through Jonny and Mateusz Cunha in the space of just eight minutes and with just over a quarter of an hour before the end of regular time they had chances to take at least one point from the match. In the 84th minute, top scorer Jonny was sent off for a foul and Rodrigo scored a fourth for Leeds in the seventh minute of added time. Almost 120 seconds later, Mateusz Nunes, the home team’s reserve, also saw the red card for unsportsmanlike conduct. Leeds have an asset of 26 points, climbing to 14th in the table, while Wolves occupy 13th position so far.
Aston Villa prevailed 3-0 at home to Bournemouth, who are also in danger of relegation to the bottom of the Premier League. Brentford and Leicester drew 1-1 in West London.
