The teams of Canada and Latvia will face each other in the semifinals of the world ice hockey championship. Canadians prevailed in Tampere over Finland 4:1 (1:0, 1:0, 2:1), while Latvia beat Sweden 3:1 (1:0, 0:1, 2:0).

Jack Quinn opened the scoring for Team Canada in the first period against hosts Finland in Tampere in front of more than 11,500 spectators. The Canadians made it 3-0 with goals from Samuel Blé and Michael Carcone before Teemu Hartikainen pulled one back for the Finns. Tyler Toffoli made it 4-1 for Canada on an empty net two minutes before the end of regular time as the Finnish team took many risks.
