The official signals to the SJC that led to a public confrontation between the chief prosecutor Ivan Geshev and his deputy and head of the National Investigation Borislav Sarafov began shortly after St. George’s Day.

• On May 11, the Director of the NSLS and Deputy Chief Prosecutor Borislav Sarafov proposed to the Procurator’s College at the Supreme Court to relieve the Deputy Director of the NSLS Yasen Todorov from his post. Sarafov makes the proposal on behalf of the chief prosecutor, since at that moment Ivan Geshev is on a business trip outside the country, and with a special order Borislav Sarafov is performing the functions of chief prosecutor.

• A day later, on May 12, six members of the prosecutor’s collegium at the SJC (Georgi Kuzmanov, Yordan Stoev, Kalina Chapkanova, Gergana Mutafova, Ognyan Damyanov and Svetlana Boshnakova) submitted to the SJC a proposal for early termination of the mandate of the chief prosecutor Ivan Geshev. They are motivated by a statement by Borislav Sarafov in BTA that, by order of the chief prosecutor, on May 1, an Israeli expert was brought to the site of the assassination attempt against Ivan Geshev during the inspection. According to those who submitted the proposal, in this way the chief prosecutor committed a serious breach of his official duties.

• On May 15, Ivan Geshev publicly rescinded his previously written resignation. And a day later, it became clear that the chief prosecutor had submitted to the prosecutor’s collegium of the SJC a proposal for disciplinary proceedings against Borislav Sarafov.

• On May 16, in turn, Borislav Sarafov sent two reports against Ivan Geshev, one to the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office, and the other to the SJC. In them, Sarafov claims that, in violation of the constitution, Ivan Geshev made a recording of a conversation during a meeting with the member of the Prosecution College of the SJC, Yordan Stoev. In the report to the prosecutor’s office, Sarafov also claims that Geshev used the base of the state prosecution in Borovets for personal purposes, in addition, he put pressure on the supervising prosecutor in the “Barcelona Gate” investigation.

• On May 22, four members of the prosecutor’s collegium of the SJC (Yordan Stoev, Kalina Chapkanova, Gergana Mutafova, Georgi Kuzmanov) submitted a second proposal for early termination of the mandate of the chief prosecutor. This time for damaging the prestige of the judiciary. They are motivated by the words of Ivan Geshev during his statement: “… by the way, it is clear what political garbage is in the National Assembly. I apologize for this expression… judging by the statements of some so-called politicians… “
