The District Prosecutor’s Office in Ruse is self-referring to publications in the media about the death of 29-year-old mother Ivelina Marinova on May 24 at the Kanev UMBAL in the Danube city, the state prosecution announced.

The young woman died hours after giving birth to her second son. She entered the medical facility for a natural birth with a choice of team, but complications during the birth process forced the doctors to proceed with an operative delivery. 12 hours after giving birth and after spending the night of May 23-24 in severe pain, Ivelina died. The initial version of her death was a pulmonary embolism. An autopsy has already been performed, the results of which are expected within 25 days.

The District Prosecutor’s Office added that a file was opened for a crime under Art. 123 of the Criminal Code – for causing the death of another person, due to negligent performance of an occupation, representing a source of increased danger. All persons involved in the case will be questioned. All the documentation will be requested from the medical facility and an expert examination will be appointed to establish the causes of the death of the 29-year-old woman.

The investigation of the case will be assigned to an investigator from the District Investigation Department at the District Prosecutor’s Office-Ruse.

The crime is punishable by 1 to 6 years of imprisonment.
