Inter won with 2:1 Atalanta away in a match of the 11th round of Serie A. Hakan Calhanoglu (40-penalty) and Lautaro Martinez (57) scored the goals for the Nerazzurri, Gianluca Scamakka (61) scored for the hosts. The “Bergamaski” finished the match with a reduced squad after reserve Rafael Toloy was sent off for a second yellow card in added time.
For Inter, it was the ninth win of the season and the team confidently leads the standings with 28 points. The team from Milan recorded a fifth consecutive success as a guest.
The meeting began with a minute’s silence in memory of the victims of the flood in Tuscany, where 7 people lost their lives.
In the opening minutes, both teams were quite cautious and lacked interesting chances in front of goalkeepers Juan Musso and Jan Sommer, who has not conceded a goal in seven games in his first ten for Inter. Only in the 21st minute came the first goal situation in the match. Dzapacosta sent a nice cross into the visitors’ penalty area, where Pawar got to the ball first and headed it home. However, she was met by Ruggeri, who shot diagonally, but out. Two minutes later, a decisive intervention by the defender of Atalanta – Kolasinac stopped Dimarco in front of the penalty area. Skalvini, on the other hand, failed to make a good shot after an excellent pass by Kopminers in the 27th minute.
Half an hour after the start of the clash, the defender of Inter – Benjamin Pawar received a serious injury. He jumped for the ball with Ademola Luqman and collapsed to the grass clutching his left knee. The stretcher immediately entered the field and although he came out on his own, he was seen to be in great pain when moving. Matteo Darmian appeared in the game in his place.
Five minutes before the break, the visitors took the lead. Bergamo goalkeeper Juan Musso brought down reserve Darmian in the penalty area and the referee did not hesitate to point to the penalty spot. Hakan Calhanoglu did not flinch and converted his tenth penalty out of 10 appearances – 0:1.
Two minutes later, the Turk missed again after the home keeper blocked his shot. Seconds before the break, Giorgio Scalvini shot a header, but straight into the hands of Nerazzurri goalkeeper Jan Sommer.
The second half started with a real projectile shot from Federico Dimarco’s left foot. To the joy of the hosts, the ball went through the goal. In the 54th minute, Lautaro Martinez headed the ball into the Atalanta net, but the goal was disallowed due to an ambush.
Lautaro Martinez made it 0:2 in the 57th minute. The Argentine received the ball in the penalty area and with a technical kick in the far corner he checked Juan Muso.
However, Atalanta quickly got back into the game. Dimarco allowed Lukman to take the ball away from him at the corner of the penalty area, then a cross to Gianluca Scamakka followed and he masterfully deflected the ball into Jan Sommer’s net – 1:2.
The visitors claimed a foul on Dimarco, but they should be mad at their teammate who was at fault. Ten minutes after the goal, the affected Dimarco was replaced by Carlos Augusto.
A superb reaction from Jan Sommer in the 74th minute preserved Inter’s lead after Ademola Luqman’s treacherous low shot from distance. With ten minutes to go, Sommer didn’t clear a cross from the right flank well, but then got the better of it, catching Skamaca’s shot. A great chance to decide the match was squandered by Dumfries in the 83rd minute after he was fouled in an offside position, but sent a low shot which Juan Musso did not trouble.
In stoppage time, Atalanta were reduced to 10 men after substitute Rafael Toloy was sent off for two yellow cards. A minute later, another player who came on from the bench – Hans Hatteburg, missed a chance to equalize.
