Newcastle and Arsenal reminded of English football from the 90s (VIDEO)

--

Newcastle won Arsenal with the minimum 1:0 in a match of the 11th round of the Premier League. The match will be remembered for the extraordinary nerves on the field and the scandalous winning goal of Anthony Gordon in the second part.

The match in Newcastle started very competitively. The two teams established a serious battle for the midfield, and at the end of the first part it came to a serious melee after a dangerous entry by Kai Havertz, after which many yellow cards followed. The first spot-kick came at the end of the first half after a dangerous shot by Martinelli was saved by Nick Pope.

The only goal came in the 64th minute. It was highly controversial as it could have been overturned for as many as 3 things – a foul, a ball out and an offside, but the VAR referees saw nothing “illegal” and counted Anthony Gordon’s goal, which brought success to the Geordies.

It was Arsenal’s first loss of the season. Arteta’s men are already in third position with an asset of 24 points. Newcastle’s success puts them in sixth place with 20 points. During the week, the “gunners” will compete against Sevilla, and the Geordie against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

FIRST HALF

The match started very strongly for the hosts, who dictated the game on the pitch. After the fifth minute, however, Arsenal settled permanently in the Magpies’ half and imposed their dominance on the inhospitable St. James’s Park.

By the end of the first part, the meeting was seriously nervous. Scary tackles began to prevail and Stewart Atwell was “broken” in handing out yellow cards after a melee following a foul on Havertz. Such were received by the German, Anthony Gordon, Fabian Scherr and Sean Longstaff.

It was only in the added time of the first part that two serious situations were reached. First, Gabriel Martinelli broke free and took the first shot of the game that was saved by Nick Pope. Seconds later, the Magpies mounted a counter-attack, which ended with a cross and a brilliant intervention by Saliba, which prevented a certain goal in the goal of David Raya.

SECOND HALF-TIME

The provocations on the field continued after the break. Positions were lacking, but battles on the field were plentiful. The two teams defended extremely hard and reminded of the tough English football.

The result was found in 64′. The hit was extremely controversial, because 3 things happened with it, because of which the VAR could cancel it – a ball out, a foul and an ambush. Anthony Gordon managed to score, and VAR, after much deliberation, decided that the goal was completely legal – 1:0.

By the end of the match, Arsenal were pressing hard and looking for the equaliser. Eddie Howe’s defense, however, stood beautifully on the field and did not give the Gunners’ attack a chance to leave St. James’s Park with the point.

In their last match in England’s top flight, Arsenal were hammered 5-0 by Sheffield United, while Eddie Howe’s Magpies drew 2-2 with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

During the past campaign, the two teams played two very interesting matches. The first meeting of “Emirates” ended with a score of 0:0. A few months later, however, the Gunners beat the Geordies 2-0 at St James’ Park.
