All 130 sections opened on time

Election day started normally in Vidin. All 130 sections opened on time. In 92 of them voting is done by machine.

Nearly 55,000 people have the right to vote today in Vidin Municipality. The current mayor Dr. Tsvetan Tsenkov, nominated by the local coalition “SDS-NDSV-“Novoto Vreme” and Alexander Mateev from the political party GERB, are fighting for the mayor’s chair.

In the Vidin region, a mayor is elected in the municipalities of Kula, Chuprene, Beogradchik and Novo Selo.

There was a curious case today early in the morning in the seventh section in Vidin. There, two candidates from the same party argue over who should appear as a member of the sectional committee. With the decision of the OIC, the incumbent remained at his workplace.

“I came at 6:45 in the morning. We opened the section, signed the documents. Just yesterday we filled out the documents and at 9 o’clock a person appeared who said he was in my place, and I was not notified,” said Bogomila Ilieva, a member of the SIK.

“They told me to come and that the document would be given to me by the committee. I was a night shift, but I was really gone. And then they gave me the document and said that there was no person, but here there is,” says Rositsa Mitkova, a member of the SIK.

“Right now, this commission has to work hell with its new member. But if it turns out that there is no basis for this replacement – we will cancel it and return the incumbent to his place”, said Daniel Boyanov, OIC Vidin.
