Political scientists: Vasil Terziev’s victory has no weight, non-voting people may be a real opposition

The battle for Sofia is not yet decided. The difference between Vasil Terziev and Vanya Grigorova remains minimal, as we are still waiting for 100% processed protocols from the CEC. Days before the run-off, Boyko Borisov hinted that the assembly could be cancelled, stating that for him it does not exist and after the elections he will decide with his party what to do.

“National themes important to the parties prevailed in the local elections. This makes governing a city like Sofia problematic. Local themes were absent from the campaign. No one is talking about the legitimacy of the vote won by Vasil Terziev. There is no weight in the eyes of the people of Sofia. On whose behalf will this man rule?” he asked the political scientist Georgi Kiryakov in the studio of “Bulgaria in the morning“.

Terziev will manage with difficulty, he believes. “There will be obstructions, at least from the municipal councilors from GERB. Boyko Borisov will order them to be non-constructive“, Kiryakov thinks.

Political scientist Tsvetanka Andreeva stated before Bulgaria ON AIRthat the narrow difference in the runoff between the two candidates for mayor of the capital is not a surprise.

“Adding the low voter turnout, this makes the victory not so contested, but rather unconvincing. Lest it turn out that the real opposition is among the large percentage of non-voters. That’s the problem with this election – the non-voters. Poor selection of candidates for the local elections. We have not seen the best that the parties are capable of. The man on the right did not recognize himself in the runoff. Today, we are dawning with the idea that we don’t have any radical change,” she believes.

Political scientists pointed out as a political sign the absence of the BSP leader during the first statements regarding the results of the vote for Vanya Grigorova.

“The problems on the left start now. We will witness an established leadership in the left space. There we also have Rumen Radev’s request. Vanya Grigorova appears, young in figure, but ideologically harder than Kornelia Ninova,” explained Andreeva.

Borisov’s behavior is at both extremes, but there is nothing new, Kiryakov believes. “He will say how much he is against the assembly, but he will not take any steps. And he is waiting for the rotation,” he specified.

According to Kiryakov, Asen Vassilev methodically feudalized the Ministry of Finance and constructed it according to his own views on how to develop the state budget.

“This feudalization must stop,” he insisted.
