Cultural anthropologist Ivaylo Dichev died today at the age of 68. This was announced by the diplomat and former MP Stefan Tafrov in his profile on the social network.

“Ivaylo Dichev died. I can’t believe it. Goodbye, my friend!”, wrote Tafrov.

Until recently, Dichev was a teacher at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, he taught in France and the USA. Columnist for local publications.

Ivaylo Stefanov Dichev was born in Sofia on March 28, 1955. He is the son of the writer Stefan Dichev and the artist Liliana Dicheva. In 1973, he graduated from high school in Sofia, and then English philology at Sofia University. He worked as an editor in “Orbita” and in “Bulgarian Writer” publishing house (1985-1987), an associate in the Information Center at the SBP.

Since 1990, Ivaylo Dichev has been an assistant professor at the “Logic, Ethics, Aesthetics” department at Sofia University. In 1991, he specialized in the Sorbonne in Paris. He defended his doctorate on the topic “The problem of the author and the integrity of the work” at Sofia University and a doctorate at the Faculty of History and Semiology of Text and Image at the University of Paris-VII “Denis Diderot” (1996).

Professor of Cultural Anthropology at Sofia University (2001); director of the master’s program “Cultural Anthropology” (since 2002); creator and editor of the online magazine for cultural studies “Seminar BG” (www.seminarbg.eu); Associate Professor at the University of Paris-X.

His research and publications are in the fields of aesthetics, social sciences, political culture, urban anthropology, Balkan identities and new media.

He is the winner of the “Panitsa”, “Chernorizets Hrabar” and “Dimitar Peshev” essay writing awards.
