Suspended sentence for a Pleven resident who caused a death on the road
The accused person has a clean criminal record, but has been fined numerous times for traffic violations
A panel of the Pleven District Court considered a criminal case, initiated on the basis of an indictment by the District Prosecutor’s Office – Pleven, against K.B., born in 1961, from the city of Pleven.
He is accused of the fact that on 12.05.2021, around 8:30 a.m., on the Byala – Botevgrad road, while driving a truck, he did not comply with the road signs for road repair and speed limit up to 40 km/h h and moving at a speed of about 80 km/h, he failed to stop in time and hit the traffic controller in that section RC, who died as a result of the impact.
“The accused could have avoided the accident if he had been driving at a speed within the limit. He did not foresee the consequences, but he was obliged and could have foreseen them. The accused person has a clean criminal record, but has been sanctioned many times for violations of traffic rules,” the court said.
“At the court session, the defendant requested that the case proceed according to the order of the summary judicial investigation. He admitted his guilt and did not want witnesses and experts to be questioned. A sentence was passed, with which the defendant was imposed a penalty in the amount of one one year and eight months of imprisonment – conditionally, with a three-year probationary period. For one year and eight months, he will also be deprived of the right to drive a motor vehicle,” the court’s press release also states.
The costs of the case are borne by the defendant. The sentence has not entered into force. The same can be appealed and protested before the Court of Appeal – Veliko Tarnovo, within fifteen days from today.
