Nitto ATP Finals, Group Stage
Carlos Alcaraz – Daniil Medvedev 6-4, 6-4
Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the semi-finals in Turin after beating Daniil Medvedev 6-4, 6-4. Thus, he finished first in the “Red Group”, and his next opponent on Saturday will be Novak Djokovic.
In the other semi-final, Daniil Medvedev will take the court against Yanik Siner.
Alcaraz and Medvedev offered a lot of quality tennis in front of the packed Pala Alpitour, with the Spaniard more aggressive and having the initiative for most of the time.
The world #2 played a lot more service volleys than usual, and after the match he explained why:
“Medvedev hits very deep and that’s one of the weapons against him,” said Alcaraz, who is the eighth Spaniard in history to reach the top 4 at an ATP Finals.
The decisive moment of the first set came in the seventh game when the Spaniard went 0-40 up and took advantage of his first break point in phenomenal efficiency.
After the break, Carlos had a game advantage, but was unable to materialize it early on. However, in the ninth game, he made a decisive break, after which he served for the victory and achieved it.
