We are piloting the writing of electronic prescriptions for all medicines

We are piloting electronic prescribing for all medicines in a limited number of practices so that doctors can provide feedback using the software. This was stated by Prime Minister Academician Nikolay Denkov after his meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Health.

“We have reached an agreement that diabetes drugs be prescribed with electronic prescriptions. There is no problem with them. Until March, there will be a free period in which doctors will be able to prescribe antibiotics on paper as well,” explained Denkov. According to him, the system will be improved during this period.

We will probably agree on a small part of the doctors who work outside the outpatient clinic and outside their own practice to have the opportunity to prescribe medicines, as before, explained the Minister of Health Prof. Hristo Hinkov.

“We asked for this meeting to get to know the problems we have. We wanted a grace period in which to fix the problems. We are committed to offer the Ministry of Health and the NHIF that all those who work entirely with electronic prescriptions receive incentives”. This was explained by the chairman of the association, Dr. Ivan Madzharov.

They will also ask for incentives from the pharmaceutical union, said its chairman Dimitar Marinov. He explained that tomorrow the antibiotics will still be electronic. In order for the grace period to come into effect, an ordinance of the Ministry of Health is required.

Denkov met today with representatives of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of e-Government, the Medicines Executive Agency, as well as the Medical and Pharmaceutical Union to solve the problem of electronic prescriptions for antibiotics and diabetes drugs.
