Finalists from the last European Championship, England, guaranteed their place at Euro 2024 after beating Malta 2-0 in a Group C qualifying match.
In this way, the “three lions” collected 19 points and a game before the end they are alone at the top with 6 points ahead of the second Italy, while Malta is last with zero assets.
The match at Wembley got off to a very happy start for the hosts as Malta scored an own goal in the 8th minute, with Enrico Pepe at fault for the visitors.
Gareth Southgate’s men did not press their opponents seriously and so their second goal did not come until the 75th minute when Bukayo Saka set up Harry Kane with a defense-slicing pass and the Bayern Munich striker scored his first goal of the season.
Two minutes later, England scored a third through Declan Rice, but it was disallowed by VAR for offside.
Malta also had their chance for an honorable goal, but Yannick Jankam’s shot from the penalty area in the 83rd minute went over the bar.
In this way, England won the match, won the group, but most importantly – won a place at Euro 2024.
