US President Joe Biden and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, discussed in a telephone conversation today the situation with the hostages of the Palestinian Islamist group “Hamas” and the development of events in the Gaza Strip, the White House said, as quoted by Reuters.
“The two leaders discussed the urgent need for all hostages held by Hamas to be released without further delay,” the presidency said in a statement.
“The leaders also discussed continued efforts to increase the delivery of urgently needed humanitarian aid to Gaza, as well as Israel’s decision to resume life-saving fuel supplies.”
The White House added that Biden and the emir agreed to stay in touch on these issues.
In its surprise attack on Israel on October 7, Hamas killed 1,200 people and took about 240 hostages to the Gaza Strip. In response, Israel launched a bombing and ground operation in Gaza that has already killed more than 12,000 people.
Qatar is working to reach an agreement between Hamas and Israel to release some of the hostages.
