The Prince and Princess of Wales are among the most popular members of the British royal family. It turned out that they were an extremely wealthy married couple.
According to the Mirror, thanks to annual public reports, the staggering wealth of Prince William has been revealed, who after the death of his grandmother Elizabeth II, along with his wife Kate, not only received a number of impressive new titles, but also inherited the vast empire of the Duchy of Cornwall, as became billionaires in the process. As it became known, the assets of the young royal couple amount to 1 billion pounds sterling and a huge annual income.
Earlier in 2023, it was revealed that the future British king received a private income from the Duchy of Cornwall of almost £6 million in the last financial year.
“Normally, William would have been entitled to £24m of personal income, but his finances have become more complicated since he became heir to the throne in the middle of the financial year. It comes after it was revealed that the duchy made a record profit of £24.048m in 2022-23 – up £1.02m on the year before,” the Mirror said, citing Kensington Palace.
The palace also said the current King Charles III, as the former Prince of Wales before his accession to the throne, was entitled to £11.275m of the surplus, and Prince William, who spent around six months of the last financial year as the Duke of Cornwall and Prince of Wales, – 12.773 million pounds sterling.
“However, the palace said that as a ‘one-off event relating to the succession of the Dukes of Cornwall’, the dukedom team asked that some of the surplus be retained for ‘working capital purposes’ – the day-to-day running of the estate,” the paper said.
The Duchy retained £6.873 million, leaving William’s income at £5.9 million. However, even before he inherited the dukedom of Cornwall, William still had millions in the bank thanks to several inheritance payments. According to The Times, the prince inherited £10 million following the tragic death of his mother, Princess Diana.
“Meanwhile, the prince received another payment following the Queen Mother’s death. William is believed to have received millions after his late great-grandmother died in March 2002. Catherine Middleton’s personal fortune is estimated to be around £10m,” notes the Mirror .
