With seven games on Tuesday, the qualifying campaign for the European Championship in Germany next summer ends. In Group B, Gibraltar welcome the Netherlands, while France visit Greece at the same time. In Group D, Croatia host Armenia and Wales host Turkey. In Group I, Andorra plays Israel, Kosovo welcomes Belarus and Romania hosts Switzerland. All meetings are from 21:45 Bulgarian time.
The greatest intrigue hides group “D”, where the second team that will continue to the European finals in 2024 is still unclear. Leaders Turkey have already secured a place in the continental championship, leading the group with 16 points, five ahead of third-placed Wales. Second in the provisional standings, Croatia, has 13 points and holds its fate in its own hands. Success against Armenia will guarantee a place at UEFA EURO 2024, and with three points and a defeat for Turkey against Wales, the Croatians will also finish in first place in the final standings, as they have a better record in head-to-head matches with the Turks. However, if Croatia fail to win and draw and Wales win at home to Turkey, the Brits will dislodge the Reds from second place due to their better head-to-head balance.
The remaining two groups on Tuesday evening are practically protocol, as in both the qualifiers for the European Championship are already clear. In Group B, France will finish top, while the Netherlands can’t miss out on second after sealing their Euro 2024 visa with home victory over the Republic of Ireland.
In Group I, Romania and Switzerland will take part in the European Championship in Germany, with the only question mark being who will finish at the top of the standings, with the Romanians two points ahead of the Swiss and will only drop top spot if they lose to the Crusaders.
