Shakira confesses to tax fraud, avoids prison for 8 million euros – Curious

Colombian hit singer Shakira has settled her tax fraud case in Barcelona on the first day of her court appearance. She confessed and accepted the prosecution’s charges.

Gerard Pique’s ex-partner was accused of evading 14.5 million euros in taxes between 2012 and 2014. She agreed to pay half of that amount (€7.3 million) plus a further fine of €438,000.

“This decision to settle was driven by personal, emotional and sentimental reasons that had nothing to do with legal issues. “I’ve come to the conclusion that a victory is not a victory if it costs so many years of your life,” Shakira said.
