P AOK Thessaloniki suffered a defeat at a very important moment – 1:2 at the visit of Olympiakos in the 6th round of the playoff for the title in the Greek championship and fell all the way to 3rd place in the standings. AEK benefited from the defeat, which at the same time won 2:1 as a guest of Aris Thessaloniki and now leads with 72 points. Panathinaikos is 2nd with 71 and PAOK is 3rd with 67.
The Bulgarian international Kiril Despodov surprisingly did not start as a starter, despite his good form, but came on in the 59th minute instead of the Austrian Thomas Murg. The head coach of PAOK, Razvan Lucescu, for the second game in a row, has failed to hit the winning team, despite the good form of his team. Thus, the “double-headed eagles” failed to materialize their advantage already in the second game.
When Despodov came on, it was 1-0 to the Olympiakos hosts after Joaquin Posse Marin-Kini had opened the scoring in the 27th minute. This happened after a penalty kick taken and missed by Daniel Podense.
Jelson Martins doubled the lead in the 61st minute, with the goal checked by VAR due to suspected offside. There was none, and the wonderful assist came from the striker Andre Horta, who arrived from Braga. PAOK could have reduced it in the 77th minute when Kiril Despodov crossed from a corner perfectly but Kouleriakis but the centre-back missed the target.
In the 84th minute, Olympiakos could have reached a third goal, but the visiting goalkeeper Dominik Kotarski saved Horta’s treacherous shot. However, the team from Thessaloniki pulled one goal back in the 92nd minute through Marcos Alonso, who intercepted a cross from Andrija Zivkovic in the small penalty area. The Russian Odzoev started the attack for the goal.
Earlier today, Panathinaikos crushed Lamia 5:0 as a guest, with two goals each scored by Anastasios Bakasetas and requests from Lazio and West Ham Fotis Ioannidis.
