Foreign and defense ministers are meeting in Luxembourg to discuss military support for Ukraine and possible sanctions against Iran over the attack on Israel.

Acting Minister of Defense Atanas Zapryanov will participate in the joint session. The forum will take place within the framework of a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council.

The main topic of discussion will be Russian aggression against Ukraine, including military support for Ukraine and the EU’s long-term commitments to the country’s security. It is planned that the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Defense of Ukraine will participate in the meeting via video conference.

Defense ministers of the NATO countries confirmed on Friday their commitment to strengthening Ukraine’s defense at an extraordinary meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council, which took place via video conference, BTA reports.

It is high time to support Ukraine, said a diplomatic source from the EU and indicated as the most urgent task supplies of the Patriot systems.

The debates are against the background of the military aid approved by the House of Representatives on Saturday, worth nearly 61 billion dollars, which is likely to affect the decision of the member countries. According to the source, it will also be discussed how to direct the profits from frozen Russian assets to Ukraine, but it is not certain that an agreement will be reached on the issue, BNR reports.

Possible sanctions against Iran for the attack on Israel will also be discussed. There is an idea to include the production of missiles in the sanctions framework for the regime of drones that the Persian country exports to Russia.

“We cannot say whether there will be full political agreement, but we must prevent the sending of ballistic missiles from Iran to Russia,” he added.

The ministers will also debate the possibility of extending the sanctions regime to Iran’s proxies in the Middle East.
