Manchester United beat Coventry on penalties as the score was 3-3 after regular time and extra time at Wembley in an FA Cup semi-final clash. The Red Devils were 3-0 up by the 71st minute and everything looked clear, but the Championship side literally rose to make the match extremely dramatic. Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes scored for Manchester United, while for Coventry Ellis Sims, Callum O’Hare and Hadji Wright were on target to send them into extra time. In the first extra-time, Erik ten Haag’s side had most of the chances, but in the second Coventry could have succeeded, with even his goal in the 121st minute disallowed by a very thin set-up.

It went to penalties as Casemiro missed for the Red Devils and the Championship side led 2-1, but Callum O’Hare and Ben Sheaf both made mistakes and Rasmus Hoylund scored the decisive penalty that sent Manchester United into the final in FA Cup, where he will face Manchester City.

The first 15 minutes saw a lack of clear-cut chances, with Manchester United having more of the ball but trying to find the gaps in their opposition’s defense and patiently holding possession.

In the 19th minute, Marcus Rashford received a superb pass from Casemiro and the England striker was alone against the goalkeeper, but his left-footed shot from a clear position was wide of the mark. Diogo Dalot received the ball on the right flank in the 23rd minute, unleashing a parallel pass on the goal line which was superbly finished by Scott McTominay and Bradley Collins should have done better in this situation – 1-0 Manchester United .

In the 40th minute, Josh Eccles sent a short pass into the box, Ellis Sims got one touch on the ball but one of his defenders took it away and cleared it to safety. Shortly after, Marcus Rashford received a superb pass into the danger area, with the England international shooting into the near corner, but Bradley Collins made a brilliant save to clear for a corner.

From the ensuing corner, Bruno Fernandes crossed to find Harry Maguire who rose high to direct an unsaveable header to make it 2-0 to Manchester United.

In the 48th minute, Bruno Fernandes was the first to reach a rebound and tried to beat the goalkeeper from a long distance. The shot was decent but flew just wide of the right post. Ten minutes later, Bruno Fernandes showed off his speed and dribbling superbly as he maneuvered his way past several defenders and fired home from the penalty area. The ball was deflected and went past the frozen Bradley Collins – 3:0 for Manchester United.

In the 71st minute, Fabio Tavares sent a precise cross into the penalty area, and Ellis Sims reached it, and although he played the ball with his knee, he surprised Onana, who failed to react, and the score was reduced – 1:3.

In the 79th minute, Callum O’Hare brilliantly slalomed past several defenders and sent a shot from the edge of the penalty box, which was deflected into the net after a ricochet, and Onana was unable to intervene and only watched the ball enter his goal – 2:3 .

Six minutes later, Victor Thorpe latched on to the rebound outside the box and fired a long-range shot, but the Manchester United keeper made a chilling save to keep a goal safe. In the third minute of added time, Wan-Bissaka was handballed in his own penalty area and the referee had no hesitation in awarding a penalty to Coventry. The situation was discussed with the VAR, and the decision was confirmed. Behind the ball stood Hadji Wright, who lied to Onana and sent him into the wrong corner to complete the shock and level the score – 3:3.

In the fourth minute of the first extra time, Bruno Fernandes got onto a nice pass on the edge of the penalty area and took a brilliant shot at goal, but it hit the crossbar.

In the 107th minute, Harry Maguire broke free from the defense and found himself eye-to-eye with the keeper, but was unable to score with his shot into the top right corner as Bradley Collins reacted well and only followed up with a corner for ” the red devils”.

Just five minutes later, Callum O’Hare set up Hadji Wright on the edge of the box and the latter headed the ball towards goal but it narrowly missed the right-hand post. In the 116th minute, Ellis Sims controlled a clever pass perfectly in the penalty area, but his effort rattled the crossbar.

In the 121st minute, Hadji Wright showed a good view of the game and played a great pass to Victor Thorpe, who showed his determination and reached the ball through several defenders and fired it into the bottom right corner – 4:3. However, the hit was reviewed and canceled due to a very thin ambush. That was it, penalties followed.

PENALTY: 2:4

Casemiro took the first penalty for Manchester United, but straight into the center in an extremely weak manner and Bradley Collins saved. Hadji Wright was emphatic and opened the scoring by fooling Onana into the right corner of the goal.

Diogo Dalot was the second performer for the “Red Devils”, leaving no chance for the goalkeeper, sending the ball into the right corner. Thorpe pounced to take the penalty, converting in stunning fashion into the top left corner. Christian Eriksen was emphatic with his penalty and Bradyl Collins did not move from the goal line. Callum O’Hare was unsure of his delivery and Onana dived well to deflect the ball into his right corner. Bruno Fernandes also looked confident and deceived the opposition goalkeeper to put his side ahead in the penalty shootout. Team captain Ben Sheaf took a horrendous penalty and missed the goal, the ball flying over the crossbar. Rasmus Hoylund took the last penalty, which was decisive and although Collins felt the corner, he was unable to intervene.
