RIOSV-Haskovo with the initiative “Planet against plastic” for Earth Day – Society

On April 22, when the International Earth Day is celebrated, RISW-Haskovo joined forces with various organizations to hold a series of events. Petya Dicheva from RISV revealed details about the program.

On Earth Day itself – April 22, RIOSV-Haskovo, together with the People’s Community Center “Maritsa – 2008” in the village of Raynovo, organizes the cleaning of the deposits of the Bulgarian endemic Manolovska grelitsa in the land of the village of Golyamo Asenovo, Dimitrovgrad municipality. In cleaning it will Students from the Faculty of Agriculture of Thrace University Stara Zagora – Department of Ecology and Animal Hygiene are taking part. The conservation status of Manolo’s Humpback is critically endangeredn. Clearing will be done manually to remove competing shrub species.

Students from the “Vasil Levski” secondary school in Ardina will visit the “Valchi dol” reserve, where they will watch the feeding of vultures and listen to a talk about the birds by a representative of BDZP. An expert from RISW – Haskovo will introduce the children to the status of the only strict reserve in the Eastern Rhodopes. Access to the reserve is restricted, and all human activity there is strictly prohibited, except for scientific research. The students won the excursion to the reserve as First Prize for their participation in a photo contest of RIOSV – Haskovo, dedicated to the Bulgarian mountains.

Open lessons, presentations, projects and competitions will mark the event PG “Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov” – Dimitrovgrad, SU “H. Smirnenski” – Chernoochene, PGT “H. Smirnenski” – Krumovgrad A talk in the locality “Yamacha” with an expert from RIOSV – Haskovo and a representative of BDZP will listen to seventh graders from SU “Paisiy Hilendarski” – Haskovo. Protected plant and animal species will be observed during the walk.

In an interview with “Our Day”, Petya Dicheva from the RISW – Haskovo shared that every year the Ministry of Environment and Water announces a National Campaign “Planet Against Plastic” by enabling regional inspectorates to get involved.
