Iran has hit few set targets in Israel during its recent massive attack. The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, “tacitly acknowledged” this in a meeting with senior military officials. He emphasized that the fact of manifestation of “the will of the Iranian army” is important.
Israeli media claim that “99% of Iranian drones and missiles have been shot down”. The remaining 1 percent caused minor damage, for example at the Israeli base Nevatim.
Debris from a suspected downed Iranian missile was found in the Dead Sea desert. They even became a tourist attraction.
Arguments on the other side about how many missiles were fired, how many hit the target and how many did not, are of secondary importance. The main issue is the manifestation of the Iranian nation and the will of the Iranian army in an important international arena. That matters.

Since the start of the Gaza war, Israel has been striking targets linked to Iran’s proxies in the region, mainly Hezbollah in Lebanon, but also in Syria and Iraq. Baghdad is still investigating an explosion at a military base used by a pro-Iranian militia. Israel and the US deny involvement in the attack.
Analysts point to the fact that both Iran and Israel have not been particularly active in making direct accusations, apparently trying to “downplay the escalation”. This is probably confirmation that neither country wants a direct military conflict.
