A 5.5-magnitude earthquake has struck eastern Hualien County in Taiwan, the island’s weather service said. So far, there are no reports of casualties or damage, Reuters reported.
The earthquake shook buildings in the capital, Taipei. The quake was at a depth of 10 km.

Earlier this month, at least 14 people died after a 7.2-magnitude earthquake hit Hualien. Since then, hundreds of aftershocks have been recorded in Taiwan.
Taiwan is located near the area where two tectonic plates meet and is prone to earthquakes.
In 2016, an earthquake in southern Taiwan killed more than 100 people, and in 1999, a 7.3-magnitude quake killed more than 2,000 people.
