According to him, the Ministry of the Interior has nothing to do with the organization of the elections, but with the security of the polling stations, the machines, the election papers and fighting the bought vote.

“For several months there has been a very powerful attack against the Ministry of Internal Affairs and me in particular. Maybe it’s from the fact that all these people realized that I’m not a person that they can pick up the phone and say, “That one, in that place.” With regard to those who stood behind me – perhaps they saw what we did with regard to Schengen, perhaps they see that we are trying to solve the problem of road trauma. Maybe they see what I do for the employees of the Ministry of the Interior and the priorities and goals for the ministry,” Stoyanov also said.

He defined the situation with Zhivko Kotsev as serious reputational damage for the Ministry of Internal Affairs. And after information emerged that the current Secretary General was involved in migrant trafficking, an investigation was carried out.

“There is nothing like it. If there is such information somewhere and it has been checked, it should have been handed over to the relevant prosecutor’s office,” he added.

The interior minister said again that his predecessor Boyko Rashkov introduced him to the smuggling defendants Stefan and Marin Dimitrovi:

“These were people who were often there with him. When you see some people who are with the interior minister and deputy prime minister, it is normal to accept them as his relatives, with whom he has some contact. At that point, I didn’t see anything wrong,” he said.

During that time, Stoyanov had no information that the two might be involved in a crime. The minister does not believe that the services are being used as a political cudgel and indicated that he was not aware of the development of the investigation in “Customs”.

Kalin Stoyanov also commented on the capture of the record 400 kg of heroin on “Captain Andreevo”, which came precisely after his order.

“Checks continue at the moment, the prepared plan is open and at any time the employees can be reoriented to other checkpoints. On the day we announced this amount, a large amount of cocaine was found at the same time at the Kulata checkpoint.
From the beginning of the year until now, about 8,000 people have illegally tried to cross the Bulgarian-Turkish border. For the same period last year, they were more than 30,000.
