EU strikes again against Iran

--

EU foreign ministers agreed today to extend sanctions against Iran following Tehran’s attack on Israel. The current drone sanctions regime will also cover missile deliveries to countries in the region and Russia. The EU foreign ministers met today in Luxembourg together with the defense ministers. On the Bulgarian side, the acting Minister of Defense Atanas Zapryanov and the Ambassador of Bulgaria to the EU Rumen Alexandrov participated, reports BNT.

The EU’s number one diplomat Josep Borrell announced after the meeting that it is expected that at the end of May, the beginning of June, many EU countries will start supplying 155 mm projectiles to Ukraine. He again called on countries to also provide air defense systems to Kiev. President Volodymyr Zelensky has asked the EU to supply at least seven Patriot systems.

“I’m sorry, but I don’t have Patriot systems in Brussels. They are in individual countries and it’s up to them to decide. But I want to emphasize that missile launchers without interceptors are useless. So we need both. We need new launch vehicles and a continuous flow of interceptors to use them. The member states clearly understand Ukraine’s request and needs, and I am sure they will take decisions on this,” said Josep Borrell, the High Representative of EU on security and foreign affairs.
