The 11th International Scientific Conference “The Modern World – Achievements, Risks, Innovations” began today in the Meeting Hall of the library. The forum is organized by the University of National and World Economy and the “Lyuben Karavelov” Regional Library and will take place in a hybrid form – in person and online through the ZOOM platform.

The conference is financed by the “Modern World – Achievements, Risks, Innovations” project of the “Scientific Research” Fund.

Scientific supervisors are Assoc. Dr. Ivaylo Beev from the University of National and World Economy and Prof. Dr. Hristo Todorov from the New Bulgarian University.

The ceremonial opening of the forum began with a welcome from the director of the library, Teodora Evtimova, who wished success and fruitful discussions to the participants. Congratulations to the audience were addressed by the guests of the event, Irena Todorova – Chief Secretary in the Regional Administration – Ruse, Sasho Shterev – Chief Expert in the “Education” Department of the Ruse Municipality; Prof. Col. Ph.D. Eng. On behalf of Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov – Rector of the University of National and World Economy, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivaylo Beev presented a welcome. Congratulatory addresses were delivered by the regional governor Daniel Kovachev, the mayor of Ruse Pencho Milkov and the rector of the University of Ruse Prof. Dr. Eng. Plamen Kangalov.

Within the framework of the plenary session chaired by Assoc. Dr. Ivaylo Beev, six reports were included: “Problems in teaching economic theory in higher education” by Assoc. Dr. Ivaylo Beev – University of National and World Economy; “Human dignity in times of trials” by Prof. Dr. Hristo Todorov – New Bulgarian University; “Open Educational Resources: A Discussion of Quality Assessment Criteria” by Prof. D.Sc. Tanya Todorova – University of Library Science and Information Technologies; “Challenges of time – the place of “traditional” community centers in the modern innovative world” by Prof. Dr. Ventsislav Velev – University of Library Science and Information Technologies; “The Tip of the Iceberg: Risks Relating to Digital Information” by Prof. Dr. Lale Özdemir – Barton University, Turkey and “A General Evaluation of the Digital Material Relating to the City of Ruse in Istanbul-based Libraries” (“A general evaluation of the digital materials related to the city of Ruse in Istanbul-based Libraries”) by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Altay – Barton University, Turkey

After the plenary session, the conference continues in six thematically separated sections. Its work involved 104 participants from Bulgaria and several European countries with 96 reports.

As a side event, the library has prepared an exhibition “Dimitar Dobrev – 120 years since the birth of the editor, public figure, writer” with documents from the library’s collection. In a circular lobby on the first floor, participants and guests can view some of the library’s publications, catalogs from international ex-libris competitions and collections from previous scientific conferences. An evening walk along the Danube river with the ship “Ruschuk” is also provided for the participants, and on April 24 – a visit to the Basarbovsky rock monastery “St. Dimitar Basarbovsky” and the museum of the Saint Metropolis of Ruse.
