The high prices of council housing have prevented tenants from buying them

The local parliament overrules its sale decisions

Tenants began to refuse to buy municipal housing in Veliko Tarnovo.

The reason for this is that the valuation of the properties is too high, and those wishing to acquire the apartments had the attitude of much lower prices.

The practice until recently was to sell the properties to the tenants at significantly lower prices than the market prices, therefore there were many people who met the conditions. In the last year, however, the grades have jumped seriously and the first ones who gave up are already a fact.

In order for municipal housing to be sold to tenants, a decision of the Veliko Tarnovo Municipal Council is required. If the users subsequently refuse to buy it, the local parliament has to cancel the already voted sale.

At the upcoming session on Thursday, two decisions on the sale of housing to tenants are expected to be overturned.

One apartment is in Cholakovtsi quarter. Its area is about 60 square meters, and the panel block in which it is located was built in 1974. The approved assessment of the property, which is already 50 years old, is in the amount of over BGN 100,000. The amount does not suit the users, and therefore they refuse from the purchase.

The situation is similar with another property, which is located on “Krakow” street and has an area of 26 square meters. For them, the appraisers indicated that BGN 42,000 should be paid. In this situation, the users also refuse to buy the apartment.

At this moment, the Municipality of Veliko Tarnovo has nearly 400 municipal dwellings. The latter were built in the “Zone B” quarter. Tenants from the municipal shacks were moved there.
